Many brewers find it strange that we made PEGAS for filling PET bottles because they consider PET to be improper package for beer. Our idea was to make a device for fast and easy dispensing of draught beer, i.e. unfiltered and non-pasteurized beer which you won’t wait long to drink and no need to keep it in a bottle for a long time.
And we chose PET bottles as containers for a short-term storage of draught beer because in comparison with glass and cans PET has a number of advantages which make it optimal for selling draught beer in retail. Here they are:
PET is a light-weighted and strong package
The weight of the 1.5 liter PET bottle is only 40 grams, the rest of the weight is beer. So it is easier to carry beer in light plastic packages (PET) than in glass bottles or cans. Besides, PET bottles are unbreakable and non-deformable. So no beer is wasted if you break a bottle.
PET is a larger- volume package
Six 0.5 l glass bottles with beer are equal to one 3 liter PET bottle. So it is more convenient to buy a larger quantity of beer in PET than large numbers of glass bottles or cans. Besides, beer retailers and delivery services can reduce storage and transport costs using PET instead of cases with glass bottles or cans.
PET is a beer protective package
Today PET producers offer bottles especially for beer. Such PET bottles have high barrier properties. They protect beer from UV and oxygen penetration and fully preserve beer quality. But even ordinary PET bottles are ideal for a short-term storage of beer. The guaranteed storage life of draught beer in a PET bottle is 7 days.
PET is a money-saving package
PET manufacturing does not require a lot of money and space. PET bottles are cheaper than glass bottles or cans, and price of the beer in PET is lower. So it is more profitable for beer retailers and, finally, more attractive for end customers.
PET is a safe package
Beer does not come into chemical contact with PET bottles thus keeping all its useful properties and being absolutely harmless for human health. Also there is no risk of finding glass bottle fragments in beer caused by bottle neck chipping off.
PET is an environmentally friendly package
PET bottles are subject to recycling but PET is much cheaper and easier to recycle than glass bottles and cans.
PET is an easily shaped package
PET is an ideal material for customization. It means that PET bottles can be easily customized for shape, volume and color and their individual design makes beer trademarks more recognizable.
PET is a resealable package
PET bottle can be easily opened, then closed tightly, then opened again, although it is impossible to do it with a can.
